Save the Children Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office is looking to recruit for a position of 
Finance Analyst – Planning and Reporting

Team / Programme: Regional Finance Team
 
Location: East & Southern Africa Regional Office - Nairobi (preferred) or SCI Country Office

Grade: TBC

Contract Length: 12 months
 
Child Safeguarding: Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

Role Purpose: Your role will be to support the country finance teams in the region, helping them to consolidate information, to provide analysis and to facilitate effective business processes and workflows.

In providing high quality support to Country Office finance teams, you will be part of the team effort for monthly, quarterly and annual financial processes. In this role, you are expected to leverage financial analysis techniques, tools, and software to provide insights. 

You will need to provide timely, relevant and accurate reporting. You will be a go to partner to provide support / guidance to Country Offices on system/technical queries for financial reports, charts, tables and other exhibits. 

You will be highly motivated, articulate and comfortable with a diverse Finance role covering a variety of country offices, whilst working closely with the Regional Finance Management / leads.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
 
Scope of Role: 
 
Reports to: Regional Head of Financial Planning and Reporting, East and Southern Africa

Dimensions: Save the Children works in 12 countries in East and Southern Africa (Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe).

Key Areas of Accountability:

Reporting to the Head of Financial Planning and Reporting you will be responsible for:
  • Supporting country teams through the annual planning process, financial forecasting, monthly and quarterly management accounts and controls reporting.
  • Supporting countries with technical support on completion of templates and loading into Agresso.
  • Consolidating and compiling regional periodic financial reports and analysis and ad-hoc financial reporting/analysis as and when needed. 
  • Support COs in capacity building in financial planning, analysis and reporting.  Develop training materials and quick reference guides where necessary and conduct tailored training programs for CO finance staff.
  • Designing and improvement of financial forecasting, reporting and modelling tools that achieve financial and award management KPIs and essential standards.
  • Actively participate in various financial reporting and analysis tools and techniques roll out process and assist the RO finance team in rolling out the same in the region
  • Interface with Agresso support and development team on analysis, reporting and development.
  • Support other departments with reporting and analysis needs
  • Working closely with the rest of the regional finance team to deliver on the team objectives including any other duties not already prescribed.
  • Covering certain Head of Financial Planning and Reporting tasks when away
  • Country support visits, potentially support in emergency responses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Accounting, commerce or business administration degree from a leading university and relevant professional qualifications (CPA / CA / ACCA).
  • At least 5 years of country or regional financial management experience in a complex commercial or development sector organization.
  • Significant budgeting experience, understanding of budgeting and forecasting.
  • Computer fluency; highly competent using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and experience working in complex financial systems like Sun systems, Agresso, PeopleSoft etc.
  • Advanced EXCEL skills
  • A flair for figures and analysis
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and advanced financial modelling skills and ability to present complex financial information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral English), including the ability to communicate and present to key stakeholders at all levels within the organisation.
  • Self-driven change-agent and excellent capacity building skills
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with high levels of change and quick turnaround times, whilst delivering to the highest standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail; planning and forecasting skills.
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to work collaboratively in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Personal circumstances and commitment to travel to all country offices in the region; 20-30% travel.
