Description
- The AHD
Paediatric Lead will be an innovative and responsive clinical operative
who will lead the technical assistance, implementation and monitoring of
I4HIV implementation activities in Gombe state. Will work closely with
other technical counterparts across the state I4HIV team, facility-based
clinicians, and relevant stakeholders and government agencies in Gombe
State.
- S/he will be
involved in the rapid assessment and activation of designated I4HIV sites,
lead CMEs and TWG meetings for improved service delivery and continued
professional development of frontline health care workers.
- The Paediatric
AHD lead will translate implementation plans into strategic activities
geared towards increasing access and uptake of AHD screening for the
target demographic.
- Shall work with
other team members to provide state-level support towards the adoption of
the STOPAIDS toolkit, gender-sensitive approaches to improve uptake and
access to AHD diagnostics and treatment services.
- Will provide
technical state-level support in implementing strategies, and support for
strengthening linkages between facility and community-based AP3
interventions.
- The incumbent
will support technical writing and submission of performance updates at
regular intervals and represent I4HIV at internal and external stakeholder
meetings, including with the donor.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
- AHD Paediatric
Lead will provide state-specific clinical oversight to ensure the improved
provision of tailored paediatric AHD services for children aged 0-14 years
old in designated sites in Gombe state.
- The incumbent
will provide technical support to the grant including data collection,
review and use to drive implementation.
- The AHD
Paediatric Lead will participate in the implementation of the 0-14 AHD
package of care working closely with the state governments and other
members of the CIHP state team including leads of the AP3, Laboratory,
Pharmaceutical Services, Logistics, Prevention and OVC.
- Working closely
with the state AP3 team, the incumbent will ensure the layering on of
appropriate AHD strategies into the implementation of paediatric and
adolescent case finding strategies, focusing on the efficient use of
available resources in the designated facilities and surrounding
communities.
- Support the state
government to strengthen linkages and referrals between OVC, OTZ, and
Pediatric ART programs, working closely with other stakeholders and
implementation partners active in the target states to provide regular
assessments for AHD for children 0-14 already on treatment who are
unsuppressed or have IIT.
- They must also
provide technical expertise for antiretroviral prophylaxis implementation
for HEIs, support regular nutritional assessment for all children less
than 10 years and strengthen in-facility service provision of
comprehensive HIV care and treatment for CALHIV in Gombe state.
- Identify and
mitigate related program challenges to increase access to AHD diagnostics
services and linkage to treatment services to manage CLHIV.
- Ensure regular
review of I4HIV data by key state Stakeholders at AHD/ paediatric-focused
HIV TWG and stakeholder meetings, leveraging on already existing
structures for coordination of the HIV program in the state.
- Contribute to the
timely collation of reports, preparation of presentations and technical
writing, data analysis, facilitating financial requests and ensuring the
judicious use of available resources.
- Other duties as
assigned as necessitated by program needs.
Qualifications
and Experience
- Degree in
Medicine, Public Health or a related field
- Minimum 2 years
post NYSC experience in developing country health care programs or program
support function. Experience working in Gombe state and familiarity with
critical stakeholders being an added benefit
- Excellent grasp
of emerging clinical issues and current literature for accelerating
progress in Pediatrics and PMTCT, with a complementary understanding of
OVC implementation, including AHD in line with the WHO STOP AIDS toolkit
and Nigerian National guidelines.
- Ability to work
independently with strong problem-solving skills including the ability to
foresee problems and initiate appropriate action.
- Computer Literacy
in Microsoft office applications
- Excellent
interpersonal skills
- Fluency in
written and spoken English, with competencies in public speaking,
stakeholder engagement and resource allocation. Ability to speak Hausa or
Arabic will be an added advantage.
